After reading and watching a few inspirational articles and videos about self knowledge I am ready to breakdown why I think before any move, decision, or path you are going to take, it is better to know yourself! Tweet it!
It is ok to know what others think about you, you may find some people that will tell you exactly what you want to hear. Others will be direct to tell your weaknesses and strengths. And a few others, will just pass the chance to get in trouble telling you what they actually think about you. Anyhow, at the end of the day, you are yourself, and no one else knows you better than you do.
So where do I find the right information?. Can I google it? Well, you can start with that, and you will find revealing staff that you should provably not have there, but I will talk about this in another post. For now, I would invite you to make the following exercice. I took the time to do it myself, and it is just enlightening. It will allow you to speak up about yourself better, position yourself in a wide range of topics and ultimately, nail any pitch. So, print this out, and grub a pen, yes, it is better this way. Turn off everything that you are doing, and let your mind flow and your hand write.
1. Why am I here?
If you are alive, you are here for a purpose. What will be the most important mark you make on the world? What is your mission? How did you get here? And, what are the choices you have made in your life that drove you to this precise point.
2. What would I like to learn?
Life is a learning journey. In the learning journey, the more knowledge and skills we earn, the richer and deeper our life experience is. Make a list of things you’d like to learn and make plans to learn them. Especially, be willing to try something new, something that takes you outside of your comfort zone. There, is where the magic happens.
3. What brings me joy?
Make a list of the things that bring you joy. Then begin incorporating those things into your life on a daily basis. Don’t wait for a special occasion to purposefully make your life joyful. It is all about the process. Those little things that bring you joy in your everyday.
4. What am I most afraid of?
Fear is a good thing. It can be a teacher and a catalyst for change. Dig deep into it and you will find what makes you weak, then train it to make you stronger. Once you make the decision to overcome your fear, you will find them less of a reality but a perception.
5. What is one step I can take today to move closer to my ideal life?
Everyday steps are the important ones. Make a plan, but keep it constant, schedule it on an everyday basis. Write a vision of what your ideal life would be and then move towards it. And above all, enjoy the process, is what will make you grow.
Self-knowledge and self-mastering are all about taking all the information about yourself and leveraging it to the next level. When you know yourself you can make a decision to increase your best skills, your qualities and find the niche that you will be great at. It will be surprising how much energy you can get from self-discovery, and above all, once again, enjoy the process.
